•1)  Simplify both sides
  ( may include: changing  subtraction to “adding the   opposite,”  the distributive property,  and combining like terms.) 
•2)  Addition/Subtraction transformations
•3) Simplify
•4) Multiplication/Division transformations
•5) Simplify

              PEMDAS in reverse.
